Ankur contacted me from out of state to schedule an extended family session for his entire family. A lot of them were traveling to Columbus for one weekend only to celebrate their father’s 80th birthday. They wanted to document it with a large family photo session with a summer feel. I was thrilled to schedule a session with them and we began planning the location and outfits right away.
They knew they wanted a field type of location with neutral colored outfits that coordinated but didn’t look overly matchy. I helped give them wardrobe suggestions and color palette options. I also found the perfect location with a gorgeous field for them. The sun pokes through the trees and glows behind the subjects for the best lighting!
Extended families are some of my favorite types of sessions I offer. Why? Because you’re documenting your entire family, grandparents included. How often do you take photos of your children with their grandparents? And when was the last time you were ALL together in a photo? Probably never, right? This type of session will allow you to keep these portraits forever. Forever is a long time. You’re doing this not only for yourself but for your children and their future children. This type of session makes a great gift for grandparents - they will absolutely treasure these portraits!
I met this fun-loving family at a beautiful metro park in Columbus. This special spot was chosen by yours truly. I pride myself on knowing a location front and back. I want to know what it looks like at sunset and at each season. I knew what to expect when arriving because I had already inspected this very spot beforehand. They were thoroughly impressed that I had found a spot just for them with no one else around. Their outfits we discussed turned out perfect - they looked gorgeous together!
We began taking the large group photos first, and then broke down each immediate family for their own family portraits. I typically have a mental list of different shots I intend to take for extended families. I make sure grandparents are photographed with grandchildren, and their own children as well. Couples, grandparents alone, and more! Your gallery will be full of variety and memories to treasure.
