Sunset Field Family Photo Session | Columbus Ohio Family Photographer

I met Roberta as a teenager in high school. She graduated just two years before me. So we’ve known each other at least 16 years! I documented newborn photos of their youngest son, Eli, years ago. They were one of my first paying clients and I am beyond thankful that they have stuck with me and watched me grow into my craft and trusted my vision over the years.

Leading up to their session, Roberta and I talked about outfits to make sure everyone looked their best and didn’t look too busy or matchy. Once I knew the overall color palette they chose I was able to help them pick the right combination of colors and patterns. She had her outfit and her daughter’s outfit laid out, but struggled with the guys. Once she chose a darker top for her husband, Steve, I told her it would be a good idea to put her son, Eli, in a light or white shirt to balance the other darker colors being worn. They looked fabulous!

The weather and light was absolutely perfect the evening of their session. We met at one of my new favorite, field locations just minutes from my home - Scioto Grove Metro Park in Grove City. We spent time taking natural, interactive portraits of them together as a family. Walking hand-in-hand, twirling, hugging and more! I also captured some traditional portraits with everyone looking at the camera. I do love giving a mix of natural and traditional photos. Grandparents love the classic portrait and families usually love having some fun photos of their kiddos being themselves. As your photographer, I have about a dozen things running through my mind in the middle of your session.

Keeping the light at your back to give that golden affect.

Making mental checklists of my favorite poses and interactive cues.

Changing my camera settings if the sun goes away or pops back out from a cloud.

Keeping an eye on clothing and hair - that nothing is out of place.

Finding the right angles that flatter your family and constantly taking different varieties of shots (wide, close up, vertical, etc.)

Making sure my settings on my camera are what I need in that exact moment.

Keeping kiddos engaged so their smiles are real and eyes are looking in the right place.

Making sure we stay on time to get our session completed in a timely manner.

Remembering any must-have poses or ideas you told me prior to our session.

Memorizing everyone’s names!

The list goes on. It’s all part of hiring me as your photographer, and soon to be friend! Because I love that a lot of my clients turn into friendships where I get to watch your children grow up. If you are in need of a family photographer in the Columbus area, I would love to talk with you about capturing the moments that matter.
