The Santiago Family's Maternity Session | Columbus Ohio Maternity Photographer
I met the Santiago family last fall for family photos. Little Thomas loved to giggle and talk about Thomas the Train. We walked all around Schiller Park having the best time! I was so excited when Amber emailed me to tell me they’re expecting a baby girl! We talked about bundling a maternity and newborn session together. She booked both and we were able to plan both her sessions in advance. I’ve found this makes things go smoother for families. More time to plan outfits and also more time to save money by the time the baby arrives and your balance is due. Totally being honest here!
They knew they wanted to find a location near their German Village home but something different from the last session. Something more urban and less of a park feel. We decided on meeting at The Book Loft and we walked around from there. I have specific spots I’ve researched at this location that have amazing scenery. This way client’s don’t have to wander around with me while I search for the best spots - less walking for expecting mother’s is key!
Amber and I emailed back and forth to help her coordinate her family’s maternity session outfits. I love pairing a print with a solid and then tying them together with a similar or complimenting color. Matt and Thomas’ button-up shirts look great with Amber’s floral navy dress. Sometimes expecting mother’s aren’t sure what to wear or where to buy an outfit. I always have some handy recommendations for clients on where to find the most flattering maternity clothing.
The day of their session we walked around The Book Loft and little Thomas loved walking up and down their stairs. After that spot we headed down the street to each little designated area I found ahead of time. Amber loved that she didn’t have to walk too much or back-track around each street. We were able to walk down one street, just a few blocks, and then back to the book store where we ended our session. Thomas is a bit older now and so full of personality! I noticed right away that he wasn’t shy with me like the first fall session. This is why I think it’s so important to find a photographer you love and stick with them. Your kids open up and become comfortable around me and it saves you a lot of stress during the photo shoot.
I can’t wait to see their little girl at her newborn session!
Here are my favorites from their German Village maternity session!
