Alexander's Columbus Newborn Session | Central Ohio Newborn Photographer
Alexander’s mom, Julia, contacted me this winter to schedule a petite maternity session and a studio newborn session. I offer a petite maternity session when booking any of my newborn sessions, which clients love because they usually only want a few images for maternity portraits and then want to spend more time and money on baby photos. Can’t blame them there! She preferred an outdoor location for maternity portraits, but I also offer them in studio for a really cozy look. You can check out their maternity photos on the blog link below!

Leading up to Julia’s due date I simply asked her to keep me in the loop when baby arrives. You never know if they will arrive on their due date or not. Baby Alexander arrived just a little early but not too early that we needed to move up her newborn session date. I always set a tentative date with newborn clients so we have a starting point. Then if baby arrives too early or too late we can adjust the date.
Julia and I also talked about outfits. She knew that she just needed to bring her baby in a white onesie and then a zipped sleeper over top. She wanted the two of them to look put together but not overly dressy. They chose the perfect outfits to compliment their skin tone, their baby and my studio space! Julia also brought an alternative blouse and extra white onesies just in case we needed them.
Before we even began the session, baby Alexander accidentally wet his onesie. Oops! Even if his parents didn’t bring extra onesies we would still be okay because I keep tons of them stocked in my studio closet of essentials!
Alexander needed to feed multiple times during his session, including right when they arrived to my home. Totally normal and expected! Once we got his diaper dry and belly full we began taking parent and family portraits. My friend and fellow photographer, Justine, came to take some behind the scene photos of me in action! I asked Alexander’s parents beforehand to make sure they were fine with an extra photographer in studio. Making clients’ feel comfortable and at ease is a top priority!
Each baby is different in how they prefer to sleep and lie down. Alexander loved being held and loved hanging out on his back. He was unsettled on his tummy so we avoided that position unless he was being held on his tummy. Your baby is considered my client as well so it is just as important that they feel comfortable too! We got so many expressions, yawns and stretches from him. I had so much fun with them!
I am so blessed to have been able to capture this family’s journey to parenthood and can’t wait to watch Alexander grow up! Here are my favorite images from his newborn session in my Grove City, Ohio studio!
