Berkley’s Newborn Photo Session | Dublin Ohio Newborn Photographer
When I started chatting with Alyssa, baby Berkley’s mom, I recognized her married name. I realized I went to school with her husband’s brother. Not only that, but I realized Alyssa and her husband also graduated from the same high school, only six years after I graduated. (Go Dawgs!) I knew it would be a great client relationship once I realized we are living in the same town, from the same school and that are homes are within a few miles of one another. I couldn’t wait for their newborn session!
The day of Berkley’s newborn session we talked about different setups I offered and how I typically plan the flow of newborn sessions. I helped them with outfit ideas for the two of them by suggesting neutral or soft-colored tops and jeans for Dad, Brandon with jeans or leggings for Alyssa. I also suggested that they don’t wear the same colored shirts, as this tends to look overly matchy and makes them blend into each other in family portraits. Alyssa wore a white, flowy blouse with a grey sweater and Brandon wore a grey tee shirt. This is a good example of how to break the rules by still wearing a matching color. By Alyssa wearing a white top underneath her sweater it broke up the color matching.
Baby Berkley was such a sweet baby for me. She was awake for a small part of her session which I happen to LOVE. Parents get a few wide-eyed awake photos of their new baby and then some sleepy baby portraits. Berkley needed a diaper change and a bottle after the first part of our session which is parent/family posing. They felt nervous to have to stop the session for baby Berkley but I assured her it’s normal and that I don’t rush newborn sessions. I’d rather spend time making baby happy and then finish the session on top than to struggle with a fussy baby for two hours. Once she was clean and fed she was ready to roll into her newborn portraits like a champ! We got a beautiful variety of photos for their gallery.
I loved working with this sweet family for the first and would love to see her again for baby milestones! Here are my favorite images from her newborn session in my Grove City, Ohio studio!
